Contains much war news, including an interesting column on the relief of General Rosecrans following the Battle Chickamauga [Sept. 19-20]. Also contains Governor Curtin’s call for 38, 268 volunteers to fill Pennsylvania’s quota of the president’s call for 300,000 volunteers.. As well as the Governor’s proclamation setting aside Thursday, November 26, 1863, as a day of Thanksgiving [in line with President Lincoln’s national Thanksgiving day proclamation.
The paper exhibits fold marks, with light soiling along one upper vertical fold-line. Else VG plus plus. An excellent 1863 newspaper from the Pennsylvania town Lee occupied enroute to the Battle of Gettysburg—published two weeks before Lincoln’s delivery of the Gettysburg address. Fine newspaper collectible, nicely priced.
