This paper appeared the day that Ft. Donelson, TN, was surrendered to the Union forces of U.S. Grant. And, the right lead column contains the following western headlines, dated from Cincinnati, Feb. 12:  “The Expedition Up the Tennessee, Stars and Stripes Hailed with Tears of Joy, Steamboats Taken & Destroyed. Arms and Stores Captured.”

The left lead column contains the following headlines pertaining to the Burnside Expedition to the Carolinas: “Capture of Roanoke, Elizabeth City Abandoned, Over One Thousand Wounded, Wild Stories of Union Losses.”
