Ink signature on blue lined paper, 2" x 2 3/4", clipped from a letter or document. Signed "Geo. G. Garner / Chief of Staff".
Major George G. Garner served as Brigadier General Braxton Bragg's assistant adjutant general in the 2nd Corps of the Army of the Mississippi, C.S.A., at the time this message was written. Later, Garner was promoted to Colonel and between 1863 and 1865, he served as the chief of staff of the Headquarters, Eastern Division, District of the Gulf of the Confederate Army. Garner was born about 1826, the son of Hezekiah and Lucy Edelen Garner. Upon his marriage to Ann Elizabeth Wynn, Garner resigned his commission as lieutenant in the United States Army. Little information is available about George G. Garner's life after the War. He apparently died prior to 1891.
