Check is dated Sept. 6, 1904 and is boldly signed “Joseph Wheeler.” Check is mounted in a frame with an engraving of Wheeler later in life and a brass plaque bearing his name and years of birth and death. Item comes framed with a triple mat with gold border. Frame meas. approx. 20.50 x 13.25 inches.
Wheeler served in the US Army before resigning to join the Confederacy. He was made a Major General and commanded the cavalry in the Army of Mississippi. After the war he served in the United States Army during the Spanish American War.
