[Similar to British Brunswick bayonet. See Jantzen, p. 118-19]. Straight, diamond shaped blade, measuring 17.75” in length, 1.25” in width at the base. Exhibits medium-gray patina with age marks and patches of light pitting. One light wavy spot in blade five inches above cross-guard. Circular marking at base. Cast brass hilt with ribbed grip. Exhibit dark coppery patina, with minor dings & scratching. Else VG. Crossguard markings: “R 393”. Functional lever-release.
King Victor Emmanuel II was Italian King of Piedmont, 1849-61, who entered the Crimean War in 1855 to gain French support against Austria. An intriguing and seldom seen bayonet.
