VERY RARE SPENCER RIFLE SOCKET BAYONET

$575.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 172-3641

Hard to find 1st Type. Distinctive squared off shoulder. Less than 2000 made. 18 ½” blade length made them too long by ½” to fit the standard M1855 scabbards. The Bay State Tool Company was making them for Spencer. The Ordnance Department complained to contractors and these were replaced by correct length bayonets. The early Spencer Rifles were issued to the 5th Michigan Cavalry and used at Gettysburg. This bayonet would fit those early rifles. Excellent Plus condition with some moderate file marks on the locking ring. A great bayonet.
