SABER BAYONET FOR SPENCER NAVY RIFLE WITH SCABBARD

$450.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 911-93

These were produced for the first lot of Spencer rifles bought by the Navy, numbered under 1000, and fitted with a bayonet stud.

The blade is approximately 20 1/8 inches in length and marked “1861” on one side of the racasso. The opposite side is stamped “COLLINS & C0 / HARTFORD / CONN”. Fuller is about 14” long. Blade is gray with blotchy darker spotting overall. There is one small nick on the blade. The hilt is cast brass. The patina is a bright yellow. Marked in the flat of the handle is a production number “451”. The cross guard, ribbed grip, and locking spring in the handle are all in excellent condition.

Leather scabbard is in good condition but missing brass tip. Black leather is very strong and stitching is complete and tight. Brass throat retains the round stud but is loose as the tacks holding it to the leather are missing. With the bayonet seated in the scabbard, approximately an inch of the bayonet tip protrudes.  [jet]
