This very fine bayonet is an original American Civil War “Zouave” style saber bayonet. The total length of this bayonet is 24 ¾” while the graceful-looking blade itself is about 20” long. Issued with the Remington “Zouave” Rifle, a.k.a. United States Percussion Model 1863 Rifle. The bayonet was primarily intended for issue to the Federal infantryman. The 4¾” long all-brass cast hilt is secured to the blade via a single transverse steel pin through the guard. Ribbed brass grip area displays a nice mellow yellow color. Upper top flat of grip area stamped with “BH” just to the rear of the guard. Blade is shiny and bright. Blade is stamped with an “S“ at the hilt. The brass hilt guard is stamped with sub-inspector mark of “S” on one side and “L” on the other.

Leather scabbard body is complete and in mint condition. Back seam stitching is complete, all brass furniture tight to the scabbard body and retains all the small brass rivets / brads at the drag and the upper mount. There are no dents in the brass pieces. A handsome “Zouave” bayonet and its accompanying black leather scabbard. A great collectible to go with a Remington rifle.  [JET]
