U.S. KRAG RIFLE BAYONET AND SCABBARD DATED 1900

Item Code: 1037-413

A clean example of the bayonet and scabbard for the .30-40 Krag. The Krag was the first small caliber repeating rifle using smokeless powder adopted by the U.S. government. The first guns were made in 1894 and the rifle was produced in several models and in large numbers. Until supplanted by the 1903 Springfield it was the dominant U.S. military longarm and saw action in Cuba, the Philippines and many other areas of conflict around the world.

This bayonet has a clean blade that is in the bright with just scattered gray spots and a good edge and point with no harsh sharpening or cleaning. The ricasso is crisply stamped US on one side and 1900 on the other. The guard and pommel match the bright color of the blade, though with a few more gray spots and a few handling and storage dings to the sides of the guard. The wood grips are very good, with good color and just minor handling dents. The lock and the release button function. The scabbard is smooth metal with functioning swivel belt hook and lots of deep original blue, though with some small handling scratches and a few spots on one lower edge near the tip where the finish was scraped, permitting some spots of rust to form.

A good example of a regulation U.S. bayonet and scabbard.  [sr]
