This is the Krag – Jorgensen bayonet used on the Model 1892 Krag rifle. It is the first knife-bayonet issued in the U.S.
The blade is bright and very clean. It measures approximately 11 5/8” long with a central fuller that is 8” long. Ricasso is clearly marked “US” on one side and “1898” on the other. Overall the blade is excellent.
The handle has a bird’s head iron pommel and a flat iron guard. The wood grips are in very good condition and held in place by two flat iron rivets. Mortise and button attachment works well. Hilt is in overall very nice condition.
The scabbard retains traces of original bluing especially on belt clip. Scabbard features knob on the bottom tip and swivel belt clip.
Overall VG. Excellent bayonet collectible. With its “1898” date this is the representative U.S. Span-Am bayonet. [jet]
