Scarce US 1798 Contract Socket Bayonet manufactured by the Whitney Arms Company of New Haven, CT. This socket bayonet was manufactured for the 1798 “Charleville” pattern Flintlock Musket made at Springfield Armory. Bayonet .69 caliber measures approx. 17” long, 14 1/8” blade. Stamped on the flat of blade inspectors mark “HW”. Letter “G” on socket forward of slot. Bayonet untouched condition, dark olive patina. [ws]
