This British-made accoutrement is an original saber-sword bayonet made for the Enfield .577 caliber musket longarm. The bayonet, with its Yataghan-style blade measures 28” long and has a single 15” fuller on each flat. Bayonet appears to have been cleaned at one time. Blade has various markings on both ricassos. Blade bears a good semi-bright finish with scattered speckles of light peppery pitting overall. Grips are checkered black leather in good condition with no cracks or chips. One side of bayo guard is stamped “115” with opposite side stamped “327”.
The black, flat bodied leather scabbard is mounted with original iron throat clasp and tip. Leather body is in fair condition with moderate flaking and crazing. Stitching strong. Scabbard has one weak area near the iron tip. A nice 1856 pattern Enfield saber bayonet specimen with its original leather scabbard.
