Standard issue Union bridle leather bayonet scabbard and frog. The frog is the 8-rivet variety that came into use in 1864. The leather surfaces are very nice with only very light crazing. The frog is stamped with a good sub-inspector’s stamp and a light maker’s mark that reads “Nece, Philadelphia.” The main seam down the body is good and tight. The brass finial is present. The Nece Company had Army contracts from 1863-1865 for 2,500 bayonet scabbards.
The bayonet that accompanies the scabbard is bright with some light scattered pitting and crisp “US” stamping.
