WORLD WAR TWO GERMAN DAGGER - NSKK/SA

This dagger apparently started life as an NSKK dagger with a black scabbard. At some point someone painted the scabbard brown to match the handle.

The dagger is completely original. The grip is wood with an inset eagle and swastika. Near the top of the handle are the letters “SA” in a circle. The wood of the grip is in nice shape. Despite the nut at the top of the handle being very tight there is a slight bit of wiggle to the handle. The guard is tight. The double-edged blade is in very nice condition. It is clean and bright with only light areas of rubbing from going in and out of the scabbard. The blade is very nicely etched with “ULLES FUR DEUTSCHLAND” while the opposite side is marked at the ricasso with “RZM” with “M 7/9” underneath. The blade has no visible nicks and its original point.

The scabbard has the original throat and finial. As stated above the scabbard body was originally painted black which would be correct for an NSKK dagger. However, someone has painted over the black with brown paint. When this was done is anybody’s guess. Now the brown paint is severely scratched revealing the black underneath. In addition to the scratching there is a small dent on one edge of the scabbard. Perhaps the rest of the brown paint can be removed which would certainly improve the overall presentation of the item.
