Maker mark: R. Bunting/ & Son/Sheffield [England]. Overall length, 11.25”, blade 6.75” in length, 1.0625” in width. Brass oval cross-guard, 2.25”. Bright blade exhibits very slight traces of pitting. Ribbed cutlery handle tight and attractive. Black leather, gilt trimmed sheath, w/brass throat and tip. Obverse side gilt lettering: “Surgeon/Acad Park”, Diamond shaped etching/ “Sorley Town D.J.” Sheath exhibits light wear, else VG and handsome. Superb Civil War-era Sheffield Bowie knife. [JP]
