WORLD WAR TWO GERMAN ARMY DAGGER WITH HANGER

$495.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 727-395

The blade on this dagger is unmarked. Its surface is semi-bright with light scattered discolorations. There are no nicks and the point is good.

The counterguard is in the shape of a spread winged eagle with a wreath and swastika in its talons. The guard is made of silver and is slightly tarnished. The grip is the early white Bakelite grip. It has several dark spots on the surface finish and one closed hairline crack that runs approx. a quarter of the way around its circumference. The pommel cap at the top of the grip and the ferrule at the bottom are both of silver and decorated with a laurel leaf design. There is slight movement to the component parts of the grip.

The metal scabbard has the usual stippled finish with both mounts and rings. The mounts are decorated with the same laurel wreath decoration as the pommel cap and ferrule. The scabbard has discolored some with age and storage.

Still attached to the dagger is the original hanger made of brocade cloth with a green felt backing. The silver hardware of hooks and buckles has tarnished dark. The edges of the cloth are quite worn and some of the thread holding the backing to the cloth has split.
