Iron clipped point blade meas. approx. 17 inches long x 2.00 inches wide. Blade exhibits surface rust evenly on both sides but is still solid. Iron “D” guard is also rusted but not loose. Wood grip is still held in place by two original rivets. Wood surface is badly worn from exposure to the elements at one time. One side of the handle is missing a 1.00 x .75 inch sliver at the top and a 2.25 diagonal sliver out of the bottom. When laid flat on a table the blade has a slight curve to it. There is a little play in the grip but it is still connected well and not in any danger of coming off. Item comes with a letter of authenticity from the previous seller stating that this item was formerly in a Greensboro, North Carolina collection. The letter also states that the North Carolina collector got it from a family in Virginia who said it was an early battlefield pick up.
