Maker mark & date: “N.P. Ames/ Springfield”, “1842”. Regulation standard, straight, double-edged sword, measuring 19.25” in length, 1.75” in width at the base. Semi-bright blade exhibits two or three minor dings, & patches of age spotting at the base. Cast brass hilt assembly with trilobite pommel, scalloped riveted handle & crossguard. Exhibits medium coppery patina with minor dings.
Black leather scabbard, brass throat & tip, with stud attachment for frog on the throat obverse. Leather displays some cracking, and one minor scratch. Else VG, and solid.
