Maker mark: “Prov. / Tool / Co. [Providence Tool & Die]. Inspector mark: “U.S. / J.M. / 1862”. Semi-bright blade, clean with slight scratching & a pair of light water-marks. Measuring 35” in length, 1.125” in width at the base. Washer present. Hilt assembly tight and nearly symmetrical, with slight bends in knuckle bow and outer branch. Brass-work exhibits medium coppery patina, with slight cross-guard bend at the tip. Original leather & wire-wrap, tight with leather exhibiting light wear & rubbing. Metal scabbard displays salt and pepper patina and small patches of light pitting, with one minor dent near drag. Else VG, & solid. Providence Tool & Die was one of the best US sword-makers, and this specimen is definitely collectible.
