MODEL 1860 CAVALRY SABER BY EMERSON & SILVER

$700.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 701-56

Blade is in very nice condition. The surface is bright and clean with some light oil residue and one or two small nicks to the edge. One side of the ricasso is marked with “US / CHW/ 1865” in three lines. The inspector’s initials are double stamped. The opposite side of the ricasso has a good mark that reads “EMERSON & SILVER TRENTON, N.J.” The original leather washer is worn but present.

The hilt has a leather covered grip with twisted wire wrap. The leather shows light wear but the twisted wire wrap is 100% intact. The brass pommel cap, knucklebow and counterguard have a nice light patina and nothing is loose. Inspector’s initials of “JM” also appear on top of the pommel cap with the letter “W” opposite them. Edge of counterguard has been purposely bent downward for a more comfortable fit when held at the “SHOULDER ARMS” position.

Metal scabbard is complete with throat piece and both mounts and rings. The surface of the scabbard is semi-bright with some light wear and moderate mottling. There is only one shallow minor dent on one side approx. 13.00 inches from the drag. The drag is stamped with the inspector’s initials “DF.”

This is a nice late war sword that saw some use.
