These short bladed eagle pommel swords were required by the Marine Corps to accommodate young drummer boys. Solid cast eagle pommel with integral casting of the grip. The guard is cast brass as is the one piece grip and eagle pommel. The blade has a single stopped fuller and has a considerable curve. It is made by Weyersberg in Solingen and stamped with the Weyersberg kings head mark on the ricasso. The engraving has gold in the recessed areas. The obverse is needle etched with crossed flags and artillery, another section of cannon, flags and a shield and foliate. The reverse ricasso is stamped Horstmann / & Sons / Philadelphia and has the same blade decoration. The scabbard is back seamed leather with brass throat with a frog stud to attach to a shoulder belt frog. The drag is also brass and both the throat and drag are attached by a small pin through the top edge into the leather.
