Early Ames heavy cavalry saber in excellent condition. Brass guard is excellent as is the leather grip which only has some minor flaking. Pommel cap is inspected WAT & NWP. Wire and washer are present as well. The blade is mint with clear deep inspection marks. Obverse has US / JH. Reverse is stamped N.P. Ames/Cabotville/1846. Steel scabbard is still bright and is just starting to turn to a gray patina. Top ring band is inspected with a P as is typical of that period. Overall an upgrade for most collections.
