This edged weapon is copied from the US Model 1832 Artillery short sword and is minus its scabbard.
The blade is double edged and meas. approx. 19.00 inches with a 10.75 inch long fuller. Blade surface is dark with heavy mottling. There are several nicks along both edges. Some are deep. The tip of the point is good.
Cast brass hilt has a ribbed grip with plain pommel. Straight guard with rounded quillons on each end. Guard is solid and does not have a recessed face as usually found on this pattern word made by other manufactures. Brass has a wonderful dark patina and shows the usual wear from use, storage and age.
Though unmarked, from the style of the sword it is known to be a product of Boyle, Gamble and McFee of Richmond. [ad]
