Type one Horstmann Cavalry Saber. 35 5/8 in blade Marked “Horstmann's / Phila.” on the reverse and the Keystone blade mark of Emerson & Silver, Trenton, NJ on the reverse. Emerson & Silver called their foundry The Keystone Works. This is likely one of the original 5000 ordered by Horstmann. The markings are sharp and clear. The grip is original polished leather and twisted brass wire. The guard is cast with a large opening for the hand. The scabbard has a soldered throat and a large style drag often found on Philadelphia and NJ scabbards. The entire sword and scabbard are near mint.
