M1860 Cavalry Officer Saber from Ames. Wonderful saber from Ames. Heavy gilt remains on the guard which is in fine shape. Grip, wire and washer are top notch. Blade is frosty with slight staining and a lot of the original polish is evident. This is an early blade as it has a block US rather than the later US which was in a script style. Blade is in the standard Ames configuration. Obverse has the Ames etch address/foliate/ stand of arms/ US Eagle with an E.P Unum ribbon/ and finishes with foliate and rays. Reverse side has foliate/US/stand of arms/ foliate and finishes with rays. Scabbard is an upgrade as it has cast brass bands with heavy gilt and a shoe drag. Also guilt with a scribe line running on the outside. Steel scabbard has a nice mix of patina to a plum brown.
