By Ames Mfg. Co. of Chicopee, MA. A nice untouched example. Blade with diamond cross sectioned profile. Marked, “AMES MFG / CO/ CHICOPEE / MASS”; also, in Old English letters, “US MEDICAL STAFF”. Cast brass hilt with shield shaped langets, front langet with oak leaf border and “MS” in Old English silver letters below with group of stars. Grip cast with eagle, acanthus leaves, etc.
Brass scabbard is VF, with an untouched patina. Mounts with stars, oak leaves and geometric designs. Drag with crossed flags. A nice addition to any Civil War sword collection. [ss]
