GOOD CONDITION MODEL 1833 DRAGOON SABER – NO SCABBARD

$395.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1087-17

The overall length of the saber is approx. 39.50 inches from point to pommel. The blade is dark with scattered spots of oxidation. It has a rounded quill back with a true edge that has no visible nicks. Barely visible on the obverse ricasso is “N.P. AMES CUTLER ------.” Just forward of the reverse ricasso is a good horizontal engraving of “UNITED STATES” in script over a line of laurel leaves. The original buff leather washer is worn but complete.

The backstrap and domed pommel cap are brass as is the ferrule at the bottom of the grip. The grips are wood covered with leather and wrapped in twisted silver wire. Leather shows light wear but there is an old 1.00 x 0.50 inch chip of missing wood and leather under the pommel. Wire is complete. The knuckle bow expands into three branches and ends in a quillon that is blank.

A decent example of an early mounted service blade.  [ad]
