Model 1832 artillery sword manufactured by the Ames manufacturing Company. The 25 ¼ inch sword has a brass hilt and a 19 ¾ inch blade. The blade is a peppery dusky gray patina with spots of pitting and light surface rust throughout. On one side it is marked U.S. 1843 and the inspector J.C.B. The reverse is marked with an eagle and N.P. Ames, Springfield. The hilt is stamped with the initials WAJ.
The belt and scabbard is made from black bridle leather. The scabbard has a brass throat and brass tip. The belt plate is an 1839 pattern plate. Where the scabbard is attached to the belt is a piece of square heavy brass wire. The tip is loose and the scabbard has been shortened. One portion of the belt is torn almost completely through.
