Item Code: G3468

The most widely used, single shot, percussion firearm used during the Civil War was the Sharps carbine. A .52 caliber breechloading firearm invented and patented by Hartford, CT native Christian Sharps.

This Sharps is a very good example of the New Model 1863 Sharps carbine with a serial number C27238 matching with the barrel that measures 21 ½” long. Barrel address with strong markings, “Sharps Rifle / Manufg. Co. / Hartford Conn.”. Rear sight marked “New Model 1863”. The walnut stock and forestock are original to the carbine. Lightly cleaned. Two strong inspector cartouches by the sling bar present. Minor chip in wood by barrel band spring. Stock has very minor storage dings, otherwise no cracks or wood filler present.

Lock screws are original and in very good condition. All lockplate markings present and strong. Serial number on tang clearly visible. Breechblock operating lever mechanics are perfect. The bore with its six groove rifling is very bright with no pitting. Overall metal smooth with a semi-gray patina. No rust/pitting over metal. All surfaces very smooth. A nice, all original Sharps carbine.
