This Civil War Model 1860 Spencer breechloading, repeating carbine was produced by the Spencer Rifle Company of Boston, Massachusetts.

Weapon is in good original condition. The carbine has a 20¼” long round barrel fitted to the carbines two piece walnut stock / fore-end. Barrel retains its original rear folding sight with elevation slider and a front sight that has the brass blade portion filed down. Barrel surface exhibits a smooth, dark mottled gray patina with light pitting.  Bore is semi-bright with its original six-groove rifling that has moderate wear. No pitting. Metal frame exhibits only a hint of the original case colors.

Original black walnut stock has normal dings, dents and abrasions from use. There are no cartouche marks visible. No cracks visible. Some light saddle wear on butt.  Original fore-end is tight and strong with just normal marks from use

Top flat of the receiver, forward of the hammer, is stamped with “SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO.  BOSTON. MASS. / PAT’D  MARCH 6, 1860” in three lines.   Stamping is thin from wear.  Serial # 47586 is located at the rear of the frame near the hammer. Original carbine sling bar and sling ring are tightly attached to the left side of stock. All screws are original with just one slightly buggered.  Iron butt plate and magazine are strong and tight and both wear a mottled dark gray coloring. Original cartridge tube is in strong, complete condition. Mechanics are crisp.
