EXCELLENT, ORIGINAL THUER’S PATENT .44 CAL. BRASS CARTRIDGE

$95.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 186-33

This Thuer’s Patent metallic cartridge is a non-dug, .44 caliber specimen centerfire cartridge in excellent original condition. The Thuer casing is made of two parts, a tapered brass cylindrical body and the internal brass primer assembly at the base. A small percussion cap that fits on the nipple- like anvil in the primer assembly acts as the primer.  The brass body (casing) has small grooves at the upper inner area that secures the lead head to the casing.  This cartridge was seated in the revolver’s chamber just like a combustible paper cartridge using an altered percussion loading lever device. Thuer Patent cartridges were not so well received with the shooting crowd because of some its shortcomings. It was also said that Thuer’s conversion revolvers were one of the few developments that Samuel Colt was associated with that did not make him money.
