Brass powder flask by the Ames company, w/standard Ames measurements—(6 5/8” from collar to bass, w/ 15/16th” collar diameter)—and markings—(clasped hands with 13 circular points surrounded by 26. Period spout replacement from the 1847 “Batty” flask, measuring 1 7/8th” in length. Flask exhibits smooth dark coppery patina w/very slight scratching and one or two minuscule dings. Overall VG plus and highly attractive.
The accompanying buff leather pouch and sling is a reproduction of the pouch & sling issued to accompany the US M1841 “Mississippi” rifle used in the Mexican War. This double-compartmented pouch carried 100 smoothbore ball, along with wadding and tools. The tawny colored pouch w/flap measuring 7.5” in width, 5.5” in length. Attaching sling has double buckles attaching to pouch and to powder flask. Yellowish leather smooth and VG to fine.
An unusual and highly attractive display set. Especially for “Mississippi rifle” collectors & aficionados. [JP]
