This is a nice example of the dual cavity bullet mold for .35 caliber Maynard carbines. The mold was made by the Massachusetts Arms Company.
The iron mold is marked “MANUFACTURED BY / MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS”. The mold measures approximately 7 ½” long. There are two cavities that cast .37” elongated bullets with a single groove and a flat nose. The flat nose feature dates this after the Civil War period…probably for the model 1873 cartridges. The mold has an integral iron sprue cutter attached at the hinge pin. The iron mixed patina of pewter-gray and brown.
This would be the perfect accessory to go with a Model 1873 carbine and, if left closed, would work equally well in a Civil War-era display. [jet]
