The Wilmont patent tompion has a brass body with a cloth covered center and a knob at top. The tompion was placed in the barrel of a rifle and the knob was turned. This expanded the body and tightened the seal keeping water and debris out of the barrel. Item is in good working condition with a light patina to the brass. Patent information still readable below the knob.
