The Whitneyville Armory in Whitneyville, Connecticut utilized its manufacturing center to produce a wide variety of small arms and shoulder arms for both government and civilian use during the middle of the 19^th century. The specimen presented here, one of some 30,000 revolvers produced during the 1870s, is a rimfire, .30 caliber, brass framed pocket sidearm with a seldom seen 8” long octagonal barrel that bears the name “WHITNEYVILLE ARMORY CT. USA / PAT MAY 23, 1871” stamped on the top flat.

In good overall condition, this revolver is designated as a Model No. 1 Variant and bears serial # 7933B on the butt strap and # 733 on the cylinder. Weapon is a .30 caliber rimfire, five-shot blued cylinder matched to an 8” octagon barrel. Piece features a spur or ‘sheath’ type trigger, a fluted, cylinder and a fine, two-piece unvarnished set of bird’s head rosewood grips. Mechanics are in good condition. Screws are in original condition with some buggering. This pleasing and unusual Whitneyville rimfire revolver makes a fine addition to any collection of secondary sidearms.
