Item Code: G3292

This cap and ball percussion sidearm is a complete Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in fine condition. In production from 1860 through 1873, these handguns were the successor to the Colt Third Model Dragoon pistols. The Colt Army was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict. Revolver is a government-inspected, .44 caliber, three-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and the 8” long barrel. Bore is strong, but does show light pitting and oxidation. Should clean to bright.

Grips are one-piece walnut in very good original condition with two very clear government inspector’s cartouches. Grips also have minor edge wear at both inside front corners. All gunmetal has been lightly cleaned and exhibits a pleasing dusky gray finish with scattered spots of dark oxidation overall. No original case colors or bluing remain on the sidearm. Revolver has all matching serial numbers #122213 including barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt strap, cylinder, wedge, and the spline. Serial # approximates the date of manufacture in the 3rd quarter of 1863.

Revolver is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and a small notch in the backstop indicating a martial arm. Mechanics are crisp. Barrel address, though on the thin side, is still clear and reads “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW YORK U.S. AMERICA”. Cylinder scene in very good condition as is the “COLTS / PATENT” mark on the left side of the frame. All nipples are original, not chipped. All six safeties still visible and protrude on the cylinder face. Various components show sub-inspector stampings. Original frame screws are in very good condition with only one lightly buggered.

A classic, wartime production, three-screw Colt Model 1860 Army revolver, this is a fine martial sidearm of the Civil War and a great collectible.
