Serial numbers, cylinder & butt. . All marking slightly, but entirely legible. Metal work exhibits bright and consistent medium gray patina, marked with light salt & pepper pitting throughout. Side hammer/cylinder is solid. Cylinder scene engraving - “cabin and Indian” - is faint. Bore dusty, with some pitting. Wraparound walnut grip displays nicks & minor bruises consistent with age & usage. Else VG.

Most commonly known among collectors as the “Root Model after Elisha K. Root, the noted Colt designer, this side-hammer revolver has its unique niche in Colt history. Produced on the eve of the Civil War, this gun exudes character. Attractive display piece.
