MARTIALLY MARKED ROGERS & SPENCER REVOLVER

$1,795.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 841-02

Weapon is .44 and has a 7.50 inch octagonal barrel with a six-shot round cylinder, hinged type loading lever, full frame and walnut grips.

The octagonal barrel retains about 30% of the original blue scattered over spots giving the barrel a mottled appearance. Muzzle has a small conical front sight. Under the barrel is an operating loading lever that still shows a small amount of case colors. The serial number on the top of the loading lever is 4381 and it matches throughout the weapon.

The frame retains approx. 80% of the blue finish. Frame is clearly stamped at top with “ROGERS & SPENCER / UTICA N.Y. Bottom left side of the frame bears a matching serial number. Frame screws are in nice condition while the screw forward of the cylinder shows light wear. The cylinder itself retains most of its blue color and bears a matching serial number. All nipples are original to the weapon. There are two parallel wear rings on the cylinder from movement.

Hammer, like the loading lever shows hints of the case colors. Action is sloppy. Holds half-cock but going from half to full-cock is difficult. Going directly to full-cock works fine.

Triggerguard and grip frame retain some blue to match the rest of the weapon. Grip frame has matching serial number. Walnut grips show light wear on edges but are otherwise nice. Left side bottom has a crisp military inspector’s mark of “R.P.B.”

Approx. 5,800 of these weapons were made in 1865 with the US government taking delivery of 5,000.
