This percussion sidearm is a Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in good overall condition. The Colt Army revolver was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict.
Sidearm is a .44 caliber, three-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and the 8” long round barrel. All gunmetal components exhibit a gray finish with lightly scattered pitting overall. No original colors remain. Revolver has matching numbers #71053 on the barrel, frame, triggerguard, iron butt strap, cylinder and wedge. Serial number dates the manufacture in the 4th quarter of 1862. This martial arm is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and a small notch in the backstop. Mechanics are good but a little stiff. Bore is good but dirty and should clean up.
Barrel address is strong and reads “-ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U S AMERICA-” Cylinder scene remains good but is hampered by scattered light to moderate surface pitting. “COLTS / PATENT” mark on the left side of the frame is good. All nipples are intact, no chips. Safeties all hammered down. Original grips are one-piece walnut with little if any original varnish remaining. Left grip has a deep gouge approx. 0.50 inch long. Right grip has faint inspector’s cartouche. Two screws just slightly buggered.
Good original Colt Army .44 revolver. [ad]
