This pocket Colt has a serial number of 88475 that matches throughout including the wedge pin. The octagonal barrel is 4.00 inches long and retains approx. 60% of the original bluing. The barrel has a good stamp on the top close to the breech that reads “ADDRESS SAML COLT / NEW YORK CITY.” This marking is in two lines between brackets. The bore has good rifling but there is some moderate pitting. The loading lever operates properly and still retains a bit of the case colors.
The five shot cylinder has approx. 85%-90% of the cylinder scene but it is faint. Small amounts of bluing remain. All five nipples are present and are the originals. Stops show light to moderate wear. Cylinder spins freely at half-cock and wiggles just a bit at full-cock. Action can be sloppy but not always.
The frame and hammer are in nice shape and still show some coloring. The forward left side of the frame is strongly marked “COLT’S PATENT.” Triggerguard and grip frame still retain approx. 90% of the silver finish with small amounts of brass peeking through here and there. Mostly on the corners.
The walnut grips are free of major dings and dents and still show much of the varnish. Only worn areas are along bottom edge.
This is a good solid Colt pocket revolver with a pre-war date.
