Item Code: 172-4468

A cap and ball percussion sidearm, this specimen is a complete Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in good original condition. In production from 1860 through 1873, these handguns were the successor to the Colt Third Model Dragoon pistols. The Model 1860 Army was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 Colt revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict.

This revolver is a .44 caliber, three-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and an 8” long barrel. Good rifling. Grips are one-piece walnut in fair condition. Revolver has matching serial numbers #51199 on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, and butt strap. Serial number dates the manufacture to mid-1862.

Sidearm is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and the small notch on the base of the butt plate. Mechanics are perfect. Barrel address is clear and reads “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA”. Cylinder scene has been completely buffed away. The “COLTS / PATENT” mark on the left side is strong. All nipples replaced and in fine condition. All cylinder safeties hammered down. Screw heads are in good condition. Brass trigger guard shows no traces of silver plating. Barrel exhibits minor surface rust near muzzle. All gunmetal is bright. Brass has a mellow patina.

This is a classic, wartime production, three-screw Colt Model 1860 Army revolver.  [jet]
