THREE-SCREW M1860 ARMY COLT REVOLVER

$1,295.00 SOLD

Item Code: 490-1540

A cap and ball percussion sidearm, this specimen is an original Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in good condition. In production from 1860 through 1873, these handguns were the successor to the Colt Third Model Dragoon pistols. The Model 1860 Army was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 Colt revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict.

This revolver is a .44 caliber, three-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and an 8” long barrel. Strong rifling. Grips are original one-piece walnut in good condition. Unlike most handguns, this one was not used as a hammer and the butt is not banged up. However there are no cartouches visible. Revolver has matching serial numbers #67811 on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt strap, and cylinder. The wedge is unnumbered. Serial number dates the manufacture in the second half of 1862.

Sidearm is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and the small notch on the base of the butt plate. Mechanics are strong, but cylinder does not freely spin at half-cock. Barrel address is worn but reads “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW - YORK U.S. AMERICA”. Cylinder scene is completely worn away. The “COLTS / PATENT” mark on the left side is strong. All nipples original and in fine condition. Cylinder safeties mostly intact; few slightly hammered down. Screw heads are in good condition. Brass trigger guard shows no traces of silver plating. Patina on gunmetal is overall a tarnished silver color. Brass has a bright color.

This is a classic, early-war production, three-screw Colt Model 1860 Army revolver.  [jet]
