SAVAGE DOUBLE ACTION NAVY MODEL REVOLVER IN EXCELLENT CONDITION

$2,450.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 22-14

Manufactured by the Savage Revolving Fire-Arms Company, this sidearm is a double-action Navy Model revolver in good condition. In 1860, business partners Henry S. North and Edward Savage of Middletown, Connecticut established the manufacturing firm in that city and produced these revolvers through the mid-1860s.

Weapon is a .36 caliber with a 7 1/8” long octagonal barrel that has a screw-in brass front sight. Barrel is gray with no blue remaining. Surface has a number of small dings with some light pitting around the muzzle. Bore looks to have good rifling and light dirt.

Below the barrel is a hinged type loading lever assembly that has turned mostly dark. Loading lever screw head appears to have been cleaned as it does not match the rest of the assembly in color. Looks to be the original screw.

Cylinder is six-shot with a plain surface that has turned dark. All original nipples are present. It is unmarked and operates properly.

Iron frame is flat-sided and fitted with a heart-shaped trigger/lever guard. Frame is gray in color to match the barrel. Worn standard maker marking on top frame strap “…. F. A. CO. MIDDLETOWN CT / … PATENTED JUNE 17, 1856 / …. 8, 1859, MAY 15, 1860.” Hammer shows hints of case colors and operates properly. Mechanics good.

Two-piece walnut grips are in good, used condition with light to moderate wear evident. Left grip has a faint inspector’s cartouche. Frame screws slightly buggered.

Weapon serial number is 7738.  [ad]
