DOUBLE ACTION SAVAGE REVOLVER

$1,395.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: G3750

Manufactured by the Savage Revolving Fire-Arms Company, this early, original cap and ball percussion sidearm is a completely original double action revolver in very good condition. In 1860 business partners Henry S. North and Edward Savage of Middletown, CT established the manufacturing firm in that city and produced a total of 20,000 such sidearms from 1861 through the mid-1960’s.

The Savage firearm is a .36 caliber double action model with a six-shot plain rounded cylinder. A 7 1/8” long octagon barrel that employs a hinged type loading lever assembly. Barrel retains its brass cone type tapered front sight. Revolver frame is flat sided and fitted with a heart-shaped trigger/lever guard. Fine, two-piece walnut grips exhibit a mellow patina, one side of grip with small chip along edge. A letter “J” is carved into one side of grips and measures 5/8” high. Sans government inspector’s cartouche. Barrel stamped with maker’s address in three lines: “Savage R.F.A. Co. Middletown CT./H.S. North Patented 1850/January 13 1853 May 15 1860”. Some minor pitting over stamp.

Original nipples intact, two frame screws replaced, rest all original. Entire revolver displays a nice dark, plum patina on the metal surfaces in addition to a small amount of light patches of peppering to metal. All internal parts original. Serial number 1972 on inside of frame. Mechanically perfect, a nice untouched Savage revolver that no doubt saw service.  [ws]
