CIVIL WAR REMINGTON-BEALS NAVY MODEL REVOLVER

$1,950.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1099-03

This percussion handgun is a Civil War specimen of the Remington-Beals Navy model produced in 1861-1862. Approximately 14,500 of these percussion revolvers were produced in .36 caliber with unmarked solid frame and unrebated six-shot cylinder. Screw-on barrel is octagonal and measures 7 1/8” long with no barrel threads visible at the breech. Grips are original two-piece walnut in excellent condition with no inspector cartouche.

The serial number #2368 is stamped into the bottom facet of the barrel and on the grip frame.

Barrel, cylinder and frame are gunmetal gray. Barrel markings are in two lines with the top line of “BEALS’ PATENT SEPT. 14, 1858” being strong and the second line of “MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS, ILLION, N.Y.” is rather worn towards the end.

Bore has good rifling but has some pitting near the breech.  Mortised cone front sight is present.

Sidearm features a brass trigger guard, steel backstrap and the high hammer spur. Original screws show almost no wear.  Action works well. Indexing is fine. Cylinder shows normal slight scoring along the circumference. All nipples are original with light surface rust at the bottom of each.

Revolver has a very nice appearance and is very clean.  [AD]
