Cal. 58 “Colt” produced by Colt Firearms Manufacturing Company and made in Hartford, CT. The lock surface is a nice mixed gunmetal gray. Markings” U.S. / COLT’S PT F.A. MFG CO / HARTFORD CT., and the date “1863” are very sharp. Crisp working lockwork. All other iron surfaces are also a gunmetal gray finish with age spots. Barrel marks “VP/ Eagle”, “STEEL” at the end of the barrel. The date “1863” is visible. Bore has very good rifling and has a bright finish. The rear sight is complete and functional. The ramrod is original. The stock is light and has been lightly sanded and refinished .No inspectors cartouche is visible. Colt manufactured 100,000 of these rifles with many of them going to state contracts.
