VERY GOOD SECOND VARIATION WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 RIFLEII

$3,700.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: G3690

Very nice example of an early production Second Variation Winchester M1873 with an uncommon special order barrel!  Principal markings include: “49304” (serial number); “WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO.  NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.  KING’S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29, 1866. OCTOBER 16, 1860” (manufacturer); “MODEL 1873” (model).   The condition is Very Good with all of its original parts.  The stock is in nice shape with no gouges or cracks, just the expected handling marks. The bore is also Very Good.

The rifle is the much desired .44-40 caliber and sports an uncommon special order 26-inch octagonal barrel (standard length was 24 inches).  Winchester rifles with special order features are much sought after by collectors.

Winchester manufactured 720,609 Model 1873 rifles during the years 1873 – 1923; according to factory records, serial number 49304 was shipped from Winchester on 12 April 1880 as order number 19779.  Includes a Winchester Factory Letter!

Early production Winchester Model 1873 rifles in Very Good condition with a special order barrel rarely come on the market!  Excellent opportunity to own a collector grade classic American rifle of the Old West made only one year prior to the gunfight at the OK Corral!   [SK]
