MODEL 1861 RIFLE MUSKET WITH BAYONET, VERBAL IDENTIFICATION

$1,500.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 913-01

This Model 1861, .58 caliber, percussion rifle musket is in rough “barn” condition.

All gun metal on this rifle is matching dark, brown/black color and many of the parts are heavily pitted. No stampings are visible on any of the metal surfaces. The 40” long barrel has the original two-leaf rear sight and small blade front sight. Barrel bore is dirty. Screw heads are good. Butt plate heavily pitted. Mechanics are surprisingly crisp and strong. Retains a swelled shank, tulip-head steel ramrod with a threaded end. Barrel bands, sling swivels, etc. are all present.

Black walnut full stock is in good condition overall. Wood has survived whatever elements this gun was stored in much better than the metal parts. There are no cracks and only the usual dings and dents from use and storage. Wood retains a dark color. Initials “JB” are carved in the butt stock.

Accompanying bayonet in similar condition, slightly less pitting.  Very faint “US” visible through surface rust.

Verbal identification on this rifle is to Corp. James B. Bryant of Co. B, 62nd Pennsylvania infantry.

A complete but near relic condition musket (with bayonet) of the Civil War.  [jet]
