MODEL 1917 U.S. MAGAZINE RIFLE BY EDDYSTONE

Item Code: 482-426

When the United States entered WW1 they had a shortage of rifles. US production facilities were already set up to manufacture the British pattern 1914 rifle so they were retooled to make rifles that fired the US 30.06 cartridge. These went into service known as the “Model 1917 US Magazine Rifle” or more commonly, the “Model 1917 Enfield”. Winchester and Remington manufactured nearly 2,200,000 Model 1917 rifles.

This particular rifle was made by Remington at their Eddystone, Pennsylvania plant. The rifle is about 46 ¼” long overall with a 26” long barrel. The barrel is stamped near the muzzle, “E / [flaming bomb] / 8-18”. Bore is semi-bright with good rifling. Two barrel bands; one with “stacking” swivel and one with shoulder sling swivel and bayonet lug. Receiver features a 6 round integral magazine. Breech is marked U.S. / MODEL OF 1917 / EDDYSTONE over serial number 925693. Rear sight has sliding peep aperture and is mounted on the back section of the breech. Front blade sight features distinctive protective “ears” on each side. Iron parts are finished matte-blue and most have small “E” sub-inspector stamps. Mechanically perfect.

Walnut stock and “hand guards” are all in very good condition with no cracks. Original, rich color and finish. Stamped “RA-P” on left flat between trigger and breech. Lower sling swivel attached near butt plate.  Number “18” stamped in stock behind swivel.

This is a beautiful 1917 “Enfield” for any WW1 collection.  [jet]
