AUSTRIAN LORENZ MUSKET

$1,295.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: G3892

Weapon measures out to .58 caliber.

Barrel has an octagon breech with a round body. Surface is moderately mottled with dark discoloration and heavy pitting at the breech. Left side of the breech is stamped with “55, 13” over “146” but all this has a large “X” over it. No other markings are visible on the barrel. Barrel also has a three leaf flip-up rear sight and an iron blade front sight. Bore is dark with light pitting and good rifling.

Lock and hammer match the barrel in appearance but lacks any pitting. A clear lock marking of "859" is present forward of the hammer and a small property mark is present behind it. The hammer holds at half and full cock, in fact the action is very nice. Hammer falls properly. The nipple appears to be the original with some heavy dirt built up around its base.

The walnut stock is in good condition and appears to have been lightly gone over. Left side of the butt has the raised cheek rest which is typical of this model. There are several closed cracks. All are horizontal. One is located on the bottom of the butt and runs for approx. 4.00 inches starting at the edge of the buttplate. The left side of the butt has one that runs approx. 3.00 inches starting at the buttplate edge and the right side has two, both starting at the buttplate. One runs approx. 1.50 inches and the other 0.50 an inch. The top of the butt also has one that runs approx. 1.50 inches. Again, all these are closed hairline cracks. Buttstock is also carved with some decoration and initials. The right side has a stylized Star of David and the initials “GPS” and then forward of the initials is another faint 6-pointed star. The left side has a large 6-pointed star that looks like a large asterisk and in a carved box are the initials “WJB.”

All three barrel bands are present and each bears the number “5” stamped on it. Both sling swivels are present as is the triggerguard and iron buttplate. Unfortunately the ramrod is missing.  [ad]
